Scholarship Fund
The Cornell Club of the Greater Capital District and its Scholarship Fund are 19 years old. The Club was established in 1988 with the merging of four clubs, the men's and women's clubs of Albany and of Schenectady. Building on $2,790 transferred from the scholarship fund of the Schenectady Men's Club, the CCGCD Scholarship Fund climbed to $3,220 in its first year.
In 1992, the Club sponsored a Gala Scholarship Reception at LLENROC LLENROC, the home of Al '50 and Barbara '49 Lawrence. Overlooking the Mohawk River and modeled after Willard Straight Hall, where Al and Barbara met, LLENROC is impressive. Attended by President Rhodes, the Dean of Engineering and the Dean of Human Ecology, the event generated sufficient funds to provide our first award, $500.
To date $36,072 has been given to 25 Cornell seniors from the capital region. Our largest scholarship exceeded $3,350. This year the University selected Leah Mosall from Delmar and Christopher Tozzi from Troy for awards of $1,774.
Contributions from alumni and the Club treasury have brought the fund's book value to $37,656. Managed by Cornell's Long Term Investment Pool, the fund's current market value is $87,699.
